Govt wants to make Russia’s FX, gold reserves data official secret

MOSCOW, Jun 10 (PRIME) -- The government has submitted to the parliament’s lower house State Duma a bill on categorizing information about Russia’s foreign exchange and gold reserves as top secret, as seen by PRIME in the house’s data base on Friday.

“In light of unfriendly actions of foreign states and international organizations, information about the size of Russia’s gold and foreign exchange reserves should be protected from access of the unfriendly foreign states,” the document read.

“Given the fact, it is suggested to change the status of information on the size of the reserves (to secret),” the document read.

Russia’s foreign exchange and gold reserves amounted to U.S. $591.3 billion as of June 3, the central bank said earlier.

Foreign exchange and gold reserves comprise monetary gold, foreign currency and Special Drawing Rights, which are the International Monetary Fund’s currency.
